Understanding How Your Body Works Together
Your body is more than a collection of individual muscles and joints. It's a coordinated system designed to move, adapt, and respond to the world around you.
Why I Look Beyond the Area of Discomfort
Every movement depends on communication between your nervous system, muscles, and joints. Your brain uses sensory information from throughout your body to help coordinate movement, maintain balance, and respond to changing demands.
When movement becomes uncomfortable or restricted, the body may adapt. Some muscles may work harder, others may contribute less, and protective tension may develop. These adaptations can be useful in the short term but sometimes interfere with comfortable, efficient movement.
That's why I don't begin with the assumption that the area of discomfort is the only area involved. I explore mobility, muscle function, balance, and coordination to better understand your individual movement patterns.
Sometimes I'll assess movement or sensory input in an area that seems unrelated to your main concern. I then recheck movement to see whether anything has changed. This helps guide what we try next; a change during a session doesn't necessarily establish its cause.
How I Work
Every session includes movement assessment and hands-on muscle testing, informed by my applied kinesiology approach, to explore strength and coordination.
Depending on your needs, I may use muscle energy techniques, active muscle release, soft-tissue work, cupping or instrument-assisted soft-tissue work. I explain the approach and work within your comfort level.
